The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has expressed support for the inclusion of constitutional roles for traditional rulers in Nigeria, describing them as historically significant institutions.
Speaking to journalists at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the Minister stressed that in a democracy, every institution respected by the people should have a defined role. He noted that traditional rulers have long contributed to governance at all levels through their ability to mobilize communities.
Senator Atiku Bagudu cited notable achievements linked to traditional rulers’ involvement, including progress in polio eradication and improvements in education.
The Minister also condoled Governor Nasir Idris over the passing of the Emir of Zuru, retired Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami Gomo II, and Dauda Musa Gomo, praying for the repose of their souls.
In addition, he sympathized with the Governor on the recent flooding incidents that have affected lives and infrastructure in parts of Kebbi State. He assured that the Federal Government will support the state to recover from the losses.
