FG, King Salman Foundation Distribute Food Baskets to Vulnerable Households in Kebbi

Birnin Kebbi – The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the welfare of citizens and addressing vulnerabilities caused by disasters, conflicts, climate-related emergencies, and prevailing economic challenges.

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Hajiya Zubaida Umar, made this known during the flag-off ceremony for the distribution of food baskets donated by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre to vulnerable households in Kebbi State.

Represented by NEMA’s Director of Special Duties, Hajiya Fatima Sulaiman Qasim, the Director-General called on traditional and religious leaders, youth organisations, and community volunteer groups to intensify awareness creation and mobilization efforts aimed at strengthening community preparedness and resilience against flooding and other hazards.

She advised residents of flood-prone communities to take proactive measures to reduce risks and safeguard lives and property. According to her, communities should clear drainage channels, avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways, and relocate from areas highly susceptible to flooding.

Hajiya Zubaida Umar also urged parents to ensure that their children do not play in floodwaters or around flood-prone areas during periods of heavy rainfall.

She described the intervention as another demonstration of the enduring humanitarian partnership between NEMA and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, noting that the organisation has remained a dependable partner to Nigeria through the provision of relief assistance and technical support aimed at strengthening emergency response capacity.

The NEMA Director-General disclosed that the King Salman Foundation has donated more than 24,000 relief food baskets for distribution to vulnerable persons across Kebbi, Benue, Anambra, Yobe, and Taraba States.

She further revealed that over 4,300 food baskets had been allocated to Kebbi State, adding that beneficiary profiling had already been completed to ensure a transparent and equitable distribution process.

According to her, the humanitarian interventions have consistently complemented the efforts of both the Federal Government and the Kebbi State Government in addressing humanitarian needs and enhancing community resilience.

 

Hajiya Zubaida Umar expressed appreciation to the King Salman Foundation for its unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and for the confidence reposed in NEMA as a key implementing partner in the distribution of relief materials.

She assured beneficiaries and stakeholders of the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, fairness, and integrity throughout the exercise.

In his remarks, Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, who flagged off the distribution, expressed gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Federal Government through NEMA for their consistent support to vulnerable populations in the state through humanitarian interventions.

The governor urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the food items and cautioned them against selling the relief materials.

Governor Idris also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the King Salman Foundation and NEMA in delivering humanitarian assistance and relief interventions to vulnerable communities across Kebbi State.

Items distributed during the exercise included bags of rice and beans, cartons of spaghetti, tomato paste, vegetable cooking oil, seasoning cubes, and other essential food commodities.
