The Kebbi State House of Assembly has repealed the existing Child Rights Protection Law and passed the Kebbi State Child Protection Law, 2025.
The passage followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the House Committee on Justice and Judiciary during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Usman Zuru.
Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman, Hon. Faruk Abubakar Mai Sudan, said the committee thoroughly examined the bill and made key recommendations aimed at protecting and promoting the welfare of children across the state.
He explained that the new law seeks to reduce child vulnerability and address previous gaps that hindered effective enforcement of children’s rights.
Speaker Mohammed Usman Zuru commended the committee for its dedication and expressed confidence that the new law will strengthen the legal framework for child protection in Kebbi State.
Earlier during plenary, the Speaker expressed profound gratitude for the safe release of the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Sama’ila Bagudo, who was kidnapped on October 31.
He applauded the Kebbi State Government under Governor Nasir Idris, security agencies, and all stakeholders for their collective efforts and prayers that ensured the lawmaker’s rescue.
