Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the rescue of the 24 schoolgirls abducted from Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday night in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris confirmed that all the abducted girls were rescued unharmed and were in good health. He clarified that no ransom was paid for their release, adding that the students were already on their way to the state capital for medical checks and official handover to their families.
Governor Idris also lauded the combined efforts of the military, police, DSS, civil defence, and other security agencies for acting promptly and professionally in line with the President’s directive.
He said the security agencies worked tirelessly from the moment the abduction was reported, noting that their coordinated response contributed significantly to the successful rescue operation.
The governor revealed that parents and family members of the freed students are expected in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday for the formal handover of the girls.
He further appreciated religious leaders and residents who devoted time to pray for the safe return of the schoolgirls, describing their support as invaluable during the tense period.
Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing security across the state to prevent further incident.
