The Federal Road Safety Corps, Kebbi Sector Command, says it has arrested 39 vehicles for various traffic offences during an ongoing special enforcement operation across the state.
The Sector Commander, Mrs Rukayya Zakaria, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi in the state capital.
Rukayya said the operation, which began on July 20, was targeting critical traffic violations, including overloading, mixed loading, route violations and other offences that endanger the lives of road users.
She said the operation, titled “Daidaita Lodi” and “Lodi Limit,” was being carried out simultaneously across the FRSC’s seven operational units in the state adding that, the exercise is aimed at improving compliance with road safety regulations and reducing road traffic crashes.
According to her, the operation was being conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The sector commander listed the targeted offences to include tyre violations, road hazard violations, overloading and mixed loading involving the conveyance of passengers and goods in the same vehicle.
Zakaria explained that the intervention patrol was a periodic nationwide enforcement exercise that could be conducted weekly, monthly or quarterly, depending on directives from the FRSC Headquarters.
She said the operation was also designed to reinforce compliance with traffic regulations, reduce crashes and safeguard the lives of motorists and other road users, and urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid overloading and speeding.
