Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has vowed that blind opposition will not distract his administration from delivering good governance and taking the state to greater heights.
The governor made the remarks on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi when the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera, led a high-powered delegation from the Argungu Emirate Council on a thank-you visit to Government House.
Dr. Nasir Idris described the visit as historic, noting that it had further encouraged his administration to intensify efforts towards the even socio-economic development of the state.
“Opposition and cross-carpeting are normal in democracy, but some individuals refuse to acknowledge the positive impact we have recorded in the last two years. This will not in any way discourage us from discharging our God-given mandate transparently, patriotically and with the fear of God,” he said.
He reiterated his commitment to restoring the lost glory of Kebbi State, stressing that his administration would continue to deploy scarce resources to improve the living standards of the people. The governor also assured that all parts of the state would be treated fairly in the provision of essential infrastructure.
While commending the Argungu Emirate for its unwavering support and cooperation, Dr. Idris praised the Emir for diligently handling both local and international assignments. He further disclosed that plans were underway, in partnership with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, to revive the world-famous Argungu International Fishing and Cultural Festival.
On his part, Emir Samaila Mera said the visit was to express the Emirate’s deep appreciation for the numerous developmental projects executed by the Idris administration in Argungu and across the state. He highlighted interventions in education, health, roads and human capital development, describing them as unprecedented.
The Emir also thanked the governor for providing befitting residences for traditional rulers and welcomed the ongoing Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project, which passes through the Emirate. He assured the governor of their continued loyalty and cooperation.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area, Alhaji Sani Aliyu, commended the Emir for his exemplary leadership and described Governor Idris as a “God-sent leader and the people’s governor.”
