The Joint Committee on Public Petitions and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of the Kebbi State House of Assembly has visited Maiyama Local Government Area to investigate a series of allegations of gross misconduct leveled against the Council Chairman, Honorable Adamu Aliyu Liba.
The committee, led by Muhammad Sani Garba Tiggi, began its fact-finding mission at Dadin Kowa Market, where they examined claims of illegal allocation of shops.
The lawmakers interacted with market leaders to obtain firsthand information.
The committee later moved to Andarai village to inspect the electrification project linking Maiyama and Andarai. Community members alleged that the project remained incomplete despite full payment to the contractor.
At the Local Government Secretariat, the committee also investigated allegations that an 18-seater Toyota bus belonging to the council was taken away by the chairman.
The bus was presented before the committee, and it was revealed that it had been borrowed by a political organization known as TKT for its activities.
Regarding claims that two caterpillars and a fill-loader were sold off, the committee chairman confirmed that documents from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs showed that all council members had endorsed the auction of the equipment.
Speaking to journalists, Muhammad Sani Garba Tiggi said the committee would now compile its findings for presentation to the House of Assembly, assuring that justice would be served to all parties involved.
Responding, the Maiyama Local Government Chairman, Honorable Adamu Aliyu Liba, praised the committee for its maturity and expressed confidence that the investigation would be fair and balanced.
