Danagaji Challenges ADC Argungu Primary as Court Adjourns Case

A Federal High Court sitting in Birnin Kebbi has adjourned to Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the hearing of a suit filed by Honourable Sanusi Danbuga Danagaji challenging the conduct of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) primary election for the Argungu State Assembly Constituency.

The matter was adjourned after counsel to the plaintiff sought time to respond to applications filed by counsel to the defendants seeking leave of the court to regularise and file their processes out of time. The applications were granted by the presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Gakko, who subsequently fixed July 7 for continuation of hearing.

The defendants in the suit are the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Alhaji Lawal Ibrahim, Nasiru Dan Umma, Mansur Adamu Gulma, and the Kebbi State Chairman of the ADC, Alhaji Sufyanu Bala.

In the suit, Honourable Danagaji is challenging the outcome of the party’s primary election which produced Alhaji Lawal Ibrahim as the ADC candidate for the Argungu State Assembly Constituency.

The plaintiff told the court that he was a bona fide aspirant, having formally declared his intention to contest the election, participated in the party’s screening exercise held in Kamba, and was cleared to purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms.

He, however, alleged that when he attempted to purchase the forms, he was informed that only three persons were eligible to do so and that his name was not among them.

According to the plaintiff, he subsequently wrote to the Kebbi State Chairman of the ADC requesting the opportunity to purchase the nomination forms but received no response or explanation for the denial of his right to contest the party’s primary election.

Honourable Danagaji is asking the court to nullify the primary election that produced Alhaji Lawal Ibrahim as the party’s candidate, order the conduct of a fresh primary election, restrain the ADC from presenting Lawal Ibrahim as its candidate for the Argungu State Assembly Constituency, and direct INEC not to recognise him as the party’s candidate.
