Gov. Idris Presents ₦642bn 2026 Budget Estimate to Kebbi Assembly

Governor Nasir Idris has presented a 2026 Appropriation Bill of over ₦642 billion to the Kebbi State House of Assembly for consideration and approval, describing it as a strategic financial plan aimed at accelerating development and improving the welfare of citizens.

Presenting the proposal tagged “Budget of Transformation and People Empowerment,” Governor Idris said the document was designed to drive infrastructural expansion, stimulate agricultural growth and enhance broad-based empowerment across the state. He noted that the fiscal plan also seeks to confront current challenges while building a more resilient and inclusive society.

The Governor explained that the budget is anchored on the principles of “Kauranomics,” a governing philosophy focused on social inclusion and human capital development in all communities of the state.

Out of the total figure, over ₦379 billion—representing 75 percent—was earmarked for capital expenditure, while over ₦163 billion, or 25 percent, was allocated to recurrent spending. He said the allocation pattern underscores his administration’s commitment to long-term development without compromising operational stability.

Highlighting sectoral allocations, Governor Idris said security remains a top priority, with ₦30 billion set aside to enhance the operational capacity and intelligence capabilities of security agencies. He also announced the establishment of a Security Trust Fund with a take-off grant of ₦3 billion to strengthen rapid response and interventions across the state’s local government areas.

To improve access to potable water and electricity, the government proposed over ₦15 billion for ongoing borehole and rural electrification projects. Another ₦30 billion was allocated for the continued rehabilitation of the Koko–Dabai Road to ease transportation and support agricultural activities.

Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening economic reforms, improving the ease of doing business and expanding industrial corridors to attract private and foreign investments.

He thanked the State Assembly for maintaining a cordial relationship with the Executive and urged lawmakers to consider and approve the Appropriation Bill.

Responding, Speaker Muhammad Usman Zuru assured the Governor that the House would thoroughly but swiftly scrutinize the budget and give it accelerated passage. He pledged that the Assembly would continue to sustain its cooperative working relationship with the Executive for the progress of the state.
