Governor Nasir Idris has cautioned the people of Kebbi State, especially members of the opposition, against politicising security issues, stressing that safeguarding lives and property is a collective responsibility.
The Governor gave the warning at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, shortly after a special prayer session organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and other groups to mark the 34th anniversary of the creation of Kebbi State.
He explained that his administration inherited pockets of insecurity, particularly in the southern part of the state, but assured that measures taken so far have significantly improved the security situation. According to him, many displaced residents have now returned to their homes and resumed farming activities.
Governor Idris further noted that the state government has been complementing the efforts of the federal government by providing vehicles and logistics support to security agencies. He commended the agencies for their dedication and pledged to continue providing an enabling environment for them to operate effectively.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Our people should stop demoralising security personnel by politicising sensitive issues. Instead, they should support them with credible information on criminal elements within their communities,” he urged.
The Governor also expressed appreciation to the organisers of the prayer session for their foresight and prayed for the continued progress of Kebbi State.
Highlights of the session featured Qur’anic recitation and special prayers led by prominent Islamic scholars, including Sheikh AbdurRahman Isa Jega, Sheikh Ladda Bunza, and Walin Gwandu Sheikh Muktar Abdullahi.
