Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of families of fallen Nigerian heroes, pledging continued support for legionnaires and dependants of deceased service personnel.
The Governor gave the assurance while speaking at the launch of the emblem for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day in Kebbi State.
Governor Idris said both government and citizens have a moral obligation to care for legionnaires and families of officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Nigeria’s unity, peace and territorial integrity.
He stressed that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes should never be forgotten, noting that Nigerians have no justification for neglecting the families they left behind.
Addressing concerns raised by members of the Nigeria Legion over unallocated land and Hajj seats earlier promised to them, the Governor assured that the issues would be resolved as soon as possible.
As part of activities marking the occasion, Governor Idris launched the remembrance emblem with the sum of ₦50 million on behalf of the Kebbi State Government, and an additional ₦10 million donated personally by his associates.
Earlier in his remarks, the Acting Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Kebbi State Chapter, Alhaji Ahmed Shehu Matawale, commended the Governor for his consistent support to legionnaires, describing it as unprecedented.
He reaffirmed the loyalty of members of the Nigeria Legion to the Kauran Gwandu administration, while appealing to the Governor to once again allocate Hajj seats to legionnaires, as done in the previous year, and to fast-track the allocation of land for residential purposes for its members
