Birnin Kebbi — Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in its efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
The governor made the pledge on Wednesday while receiving the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) in charge of Administration and Finance, Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, who represented the Inspector-General of Police during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Governor Idris expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the continued support extended to Kebbi State, particularly in the area of security and public safety.
“Please convey my appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the unwavering support he has continued to extend to Kebbi State, particularly in safeguarding lives and property,” the governor said.
He commended officers and personnel of the Kebbi State Police Command for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
The governor reiterated his administration’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the police and other security agencies to enhance safety across Kebbi.
“My desire is to ensure that the people of Kebbi sleep with both eyes closed. This administration will continue to provide the police with all necessary support to enable them discharge their responsibilities effectively,” he added.
Governor Idris noted that although Kebbi State does not harbour bandit camps, its strategic location and shared borders with the Republic of Niger, the Republic of Benin, as well as Niger and Zamfara states, make it susceptible to the infiltration of criminal elements.
According to him, bandits and other criminals often cross into the state from neighbouring territories to carry out attacks before retreating to their bases.
Earlier, DIG Suleiman Mohammed said he was in Kebbi State on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police to convey condolences to the government and people of the state over the loss of security personnel who died in active service.
He explained that the visit also provided an opportunity to assess the performance of officers and men of the Kebbi State Command and participate in a stakeholders’ meeting focused on addressing security challenges and improving safety across the state.
The DIG further disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force is increasingly deploying technology-driven and intelligence-led policing strategies to tackle emerging security threats and strengthen crime-fighting efforts nationwide.
He emphasized the commitment of the police leadership to improving operational effectiveness and fostering collaboration with state governments and relevant stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and security.
