Governor Idris Hands Over Rescued Schoolgirls to Their Parents

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has formally handed over the rescued students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, to their parents following their release from bandits.

 

Speaking during the handover, Governor Idris expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of all the girls without injuries. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the swift and decisive actions that facilitated the rescue, particularly the directive instructing the Minister of State for Defence to relocate to Kebbi State to coordinate the operation.

 

The Governor also appreciated the efforts of security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and residents of Kebbi State, as well as all those who visited to sympathise with the state during the ordeal.

 

Governor Idris praised the parents for their courage, patience, and prayers throughout the crisis. He urged them not to be discouraged by the incident or withdraw their children from school, assuring them of his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He further advised the rescued students to focus on their education so they can contribute meaningfully to society in the future.

 

Earlier, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Bande, briefed the Governor that medical examinations conducted on the students confirmed they were not abused.

 

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Ibrahim Haruna Maga expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor Idris, Minister of State for Defence Dr. Bello Matawalle, and security agencies for their relentless efforts in ensuring the safe rescue of the children.

 

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Umar Abubakar Tafida, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Senator representing Kebbi Central, Muhammad Adamu Aliero, former Governor Saidu Dakingari, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Mohammed Argungu, members of the State Executive Council, Special Advisers and Heads of Security Agencies in Kebbi among others.
