Governor Idris intensifies efforts to improve power supply in Kebbi

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring adequate power supply across the state as part of efforts to drive socio-economic development and industrial growth, saying  improved electricity remains a key pillar in his agenda to transform Kebbi into an industrial hub.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, who noted that the present administration has continued to prioritize the energy sector through strategic investments and engagement with relevant stakeholders.

Governor Idris, since assuming office, has been working closely with technical experts in the electricity sector, while committing substantial resources towards improving power supply in the state. The move, according to the statement, is aimed at supporting the governor’s ambitious industrialization drive.

The statement further reveals that the governor is currently in London, United Kingdom, where he is attending an International Energy Summit organized by the Kaduna Electric Distribution Company. The summit, themed “Driving Energy Investment and Regional Development,” has attracted key players in the energy sector.

Participants at the summit include senior government officials, energy experts, development partners, and private sector investors who are deliberating on strategies to enhance energy access and unlock investment opportunities within the Kaduna Electric franchise area.

Discussions at the summit are also focusing on the effective implementation of the 2023 Electricity Act, which is designed to decentralize Nigeria’s power sector and promote improved generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity across the country.

Governor Idris is also expected to hold separate consultations with potential investors on improving electricity infrastructure in Kebbi State.

The statement adds that the governor has already undertaken key interventions, including the procurement of a 15MVA transformer worth over 650 million naira, approval of 150 million naira monthly support for Kaduna Electric, and the purchase of 40 transformers, with plans to procure an additional 40 transformers to boost power supply in the state.
