The Committee on Public Petitions of the Kebbi State House of Assembly has invited the Chairman of Maiyama Local Government, Adamu Aliyu Liba, to appear before it over allegations of gross misconduct.

The committee, chaired by the Chief Whip of the House, Muhammad Sani Garba Tiggi, sat at the State Assembly Complex in Birnin Kebbi to listen to the chairman’s response to a petition submitted by the Maiyama Local Government Progressive Union.

Responding to the allegations, Chairman Adamu Aliyu Liba dismissed the claim that he took away an 18-seater Toyota bus belonging to the local government.

He explained that he only borrowed the vehicle to support the political group, TKT, and presented the bus before the committee as evidence that it remains in good condition.

On the allegation of illegal plot allocation at Dadin Kowa Market, the chairman said he was not aware of any such activity and insisted he had never allocated plots whether during his time as Sole Administrator or as the current Executive Chairman.

Regarding the claim that he sold two Caterpillars and a fill-loader owned by the local government, the Chairman clarified that the equipment was auctioned with the full approval of council members and the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He also refuted allegations that the electrification project from Maiyama to Andarai was left incomplete despite full payment, stating that the project has already been completed.

After deliberations, the Committee on Public Petitions excused the chairman and announced that an on-site verification visit would be scheduled soon.
