The Kebbi State House of Assembly has recommended the suspension of the Chairman of Fakai Local Government Area, Muhammad S. Fawa Mahuta, for six months over allegations of gross misconduct and negligence of duty.
The decision followed the presentation of a comprehensive report by the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, chaired by Hon. Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, during plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Mohammed Usman Zuru.
The committee’s investigation stemmed from a petition submitted by the Fakai Concerned Citizens, alleging the vandalization and illegal sale of government property in the area.
During the committee’s inquiry, Hon. Salihu Dangoje said the council chairman reportedly confessed to misappropriating five transformers, each valued at 2.5 million naira.
The committee also uncovered major irregularities in the allocation of local government farmlands, leading to a recommendation for the immediate revocation of all plots allocated without due process.
On the Mahuta Dam rehabilitation project, the committee discovered that although the contract was fully paid for, it was never awarded to any company, contradicting earlier claims that ZBCC Company handled the project.
Speaker of the House Mohammed Usman Zuru said the House’s decision to suspend the council chairman demonstrates its commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing concerns raised by the community.
Meanwhile, the House presented a commendation letter and a brand new CG Daylong motorcycle to DSC Sani Abdullahi Isah of the NSCDC Fakai Division, in recognition of his role in preventing the illegal transportation of the vandalized transformers.
