PGF Visits Kebbi Over Abducted Schoolgirls

The Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF) has declared its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the collective effort to tackle the escalating security challenges confronting Nigeria.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, made the declaration in Birnin Kebbi when he led a delegation of Progressive Governors on a sympathy visit to Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls at Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

“We, the governors—your brothers—are here in solidarity with you over this tragic attack on the girls’ school in Maga,” Uzodimma said. “We stand united behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security agencies at this time when national security is under severe threat. Insecurity must be tamed, and we are fully aligned with the President’s efforts to strengthen security and safeguard our democracy.”

The PGF chairman further stated that the Forum is in full support of all security operations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. “An injury to one is an injury to all. If one part of the country is bleeding, every part is affected. We commit everything into the Hands of God, the Almighty, Who knows all that is happening,” he added.

Responding, Governor Nasir Idris expressed profound appreciation to the Progressive Governors for the visit, describing it as timely and reassuring.

“Your visit is very dear to us. It reinforces the encouragement we received yesterday when Vice President Kashim Shettima, on behalf of President Tinubu, conveyed the Federal Government’s support,” Idris said. “The President has assured us that security agencies are fully mobilised to ensure the safe return of our daughters.”

The governor noted that security personnel have intensified efforts on the ground, adding that he visited Maga personally to assess the situation, condole with parents, and console the family of the staff member who was killed during the attack.

“I assured the parents that by God’s grace, everything possible will be done to rescue their daughters unharmed,” he said.

Governor Idris also revealed that Kebbi State has mobilised Muslim, Christian, and traditional clerics to sustain prayers during this difficult period, emphasizing his belief in the spiritual strength of collective supplication.

“As Kebbi turns into a house of prayer, we hold firmly to our belief that prayer possesses immense potency in stabilising society,” the governor stated.
