Kebbi Farmers Receive 130 Power Tillers Under N-HYPPADEC Scheme

The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has distributed 130 power tillers to selected farmers across N-HYPPADEC communities in Kebbi State.

The Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, represented by his Special Adviser on Technical Matters, Prof. Yaseer Abubakar, said the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises agriculture, food security, economic growth, and sustainable livelihoods for Nigerians.

He said N-HYPPADEC remains fully aligned with the Federal Government’s policy direction aimed at enhancing productivity, reducing poverty, and improving the socio-economic wellbeing of communities across the country.

He explained that the initiative falls under N-HYPPADEC’s Agricultural Empowerment Programme, through which 850 power tillers were procured for distribution across the commission’s 10 member states. Kebbi State received 130 units to support farmers in its riverine and power-producing communities.

Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa stressed that the machines were provided at no cost and urged beneficiaries to use them strictly for agricultural purposes. He warned that the commission would monitor the equipment to prevent diversion or resale.

He also appreciated the support of the Kebbi State Government under Governor Nasir Idris, as well as traditional rulers, community leaders, and farmers’ associations, for their roles in facilitating the programme.

He added that additional support measures, including extension services, hand-driven planters, and knapsack sprayers, would further improve farming systems and agricultural value chains.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture in Kebbi State, Shehu Mu’azu, said the intervention followed consultations among power-producing states on ways to improve farmers’ productivity.

He called on beneficiaries to make proper use of the equipment and avoid selling it.

Also speaking at the event, Sadiq Ubandoman-Gwandu praised N-HYPPADEC for its consistent interventions aimed at improving livelihoods in member communities.

Representing the beneficiaries, Ibrahim Dankubura expressed appreciation to the commission and the Federal Government for sustaining agricultural policies focused on food security.
