Kebbi Governor Pledges More Dividends of Democracy at NLC Retreat

Governor Nasir Idris has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kebbi State.

The governor made the pledge in Birnin Kebbi during a one-day retreat on workers’ diligence to duty as a tool for state and national development, organised by the Kebbi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Governor Idris stated that he has not disappointed workers who elected him in 2023 and assured them of his resolve to consolidate on the achievements recorded so far. He disclosed that his administration would soon flag off the distribution of assorted grains and farming inputs — including fertiliser, power tillers, seedlings and herbicides — to workers and residents of the state free of charge.

He also announced that civil servants would begin moving into the newly commissioned State Secretariat complex next week.

The governor expressed appreciation to workers for their continued support and urged them to remain steadfast in backing his administration. He said he was delighted by the presence of past and current leaders of the NLC at the event, noting that their visit served as an assessment of the confidence reposed in him during the 2023 elections.

In separate remarks, former Presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress — Hassan Sunmonu, Abdulwaheed Ibrahim Umar, and Ayuba Wabba — commended the governor for what they described as his remarkable performance and encouraged him to sustain the momentum.

The National President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, who spoke on the theme “Diligence to Duty,” emphasised that productivity increases when workers remain committed and diligent in their responsibilities. He charged Kebbi workers to uphold discipline and dedication in the discharge of their duties.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Governor Idris by the NLC President on behalf of the National Union of Pensioners.
