Muslim Media Watch Group Dismisses Alleged Persecution of Christians in Nigeria

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has described as false and misleading the recent claims circulating in the United States alleging persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibrahim, the group urged the U.S. government not to rely on what it called biased, unverifiable, and fabricated reports being peddled by enemies of Nigeria. He maintained that such reports were designed to create religious tension and damage the country’s image internationally.

Alhaji Ibrahim emphasized that there was no iota of truth in the allegations, stressing that Nigeria remains a multi-religious nation where citizens of different faiths coexist peacefully despite the challenges posed by insecurity.

The Coordinator explained that one of the group’s cardinal objectives is to advocate sanctions against those who promote false accusations aimed at dividing the nation. He added that the MMWG is committed to strengthening inter-religious harmony through enlightenment programs, public lectures, and dialogues among faith communities.

The statement further noted that the current security challenges facing the country are acts of criminality unrelated to religion, and are being effectively tackled by the Nigerian security forces under both past and present administrations.

Alhaji Ibrahim therefore called on Nigerians and the international community to support the nation’s efforts toward peace, unity, and development, rather than spreading misinformation capable of causing disaffection among its citizens.
