Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami, has been officially appointed as the new Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State.
The announcement was made on Thursday at the Zuru Emir’s Palace by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abubakar Garba Dutsin-Mari, who also presented the appointment letter signed by Governor Nasir Idris.
Garba Dutsin-Mari explained that the appointment followed the submission of three names by the Zuru Emirate Council’s Kingmakers to the Governor, in line with constitutional provisions. Exercising his authority, Governor Idris approved the selection of Alhaji Sanusi Mikail Sami as the new Emir, thereby succeeding the late retired Major General Muhammad Sani Sami Gomo II.
Earlier, the Sarkin Wasagu, Alhaji Muktari Musa, who had served as Acting Emir since the passing of the late monarch, formally received the new Emir and welcomed dignitaries and guests at the palace.
In his maiden remarks, the new Emir, to be known as Sami Gomo III expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and Governor Nasir Idris for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to run an open-door administration, foster unity, and ensure inclusiveness in leadership.
“I call on our people to remain peaceful, loyal, and united. With your prayers and cooperation, we will continue to strengthen the progress of Zuru Emirate,” he said.
He also commended Sarkin Wasagu for his leadership during the transitional period and assured the people of his continued commitment to their welfare.
It would be recalled that the late Emir, Major General Muhammad Sani Sami (Rtd.), passed away recently in a London hospital and was buried at his residence in Zuru.
