The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Kebbi State Council, has rejected claims that workers in the state are facing widespread unpaid pensions, non-implementation of promotions and unlawful salary deductions.
The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Murtala Usman, stated this on Monday in Birnin Kebbi while reacting to an Independence Day address by the ADC governorship candidate, Abubakar Malami, SAN.
Usman said trade unionism was based on facts, evidence, negotiation and institutional engagement, rather than unverified political claims.
He said the NLC had maintained regular engagement with the Kebbi State Government since Governor Nasir Idris assumed office in 2023 over workers’ welfare and conditions of service.
According to him, the union had consistently presented workers’ demands to the government, with several issues addressed while others remained under negotiation.
Usman also acknowledged Malami’s promise to raise the minimum wage to 110-thousand naira if elected governor in 2027, but urged workers to assess such promises carefully.
He said political promises should be backed by clear funding, sustainability and implementation plans, stressing that workers needed realistic and deliverable policies rather than attractive figures and campaign rhetoric .
