The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against banditry with the arrest of a suspected Lakurawa bandit and the recovery of 10 rustled cows.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Salihu Umar of Dogon Dutse area, Niger Republic, was apprehended on 31st August, 2025, at about 5:30pm at the Bachaka cattle market.
The cows were confirmed to belong to Usman Aliyu of Zogirma town, Bunza Local Government Area, whose herd of 68 cows was rustled on 20th August, 2025, by suspected Lakurawa bandits who fled into Niger Republic.
The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bachaka and his men for the successful operation, describing it as a display of “bravery and intelligence-led policing strategy.” He further directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Birnin Kebbi, for discreet investigation.
CP Sani also reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining the ongoing onslaught against violent crimes, assuring that efforts are being intensified to arrest other fleeing gang members and recover the remaining stolen cows.
He appealed to residents of the state to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information to ensure lasting peace and stability.
