The Kano State Police Command has arrested three key suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano metropolis.
The arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
He said the suspects were apprehended during a sting operation supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, which took place between 10:00 p.m. on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18, 2026.
Those arrested were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, also known as Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.
Police revealed that preliminary investigations showed that Umar Auwalu, alleged to be the leader of the group and a nephew of the deceased woman, confessed to his involvement in the killings. He also reportedly admitted that the gang had carried out other violent attacks within the state.
Items recovered from the suspects included bloodstained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club, cash and other weapons believed to have been used in the attack.
The police command stated that investigations were ongoing and assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
The command also commended the officers involved in the operation and expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation, reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property across Kano State.
