Police Foil Bandits’ Attack in Kebbi, Recover 141 Rustled Livestock

Personnel of the No. 36 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Birnin Kebbi have repelled an attack by armed bandits in Zodi village, Zuru Local Government Area, recovering 141 livestock and two motorcycles.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the incident occurred on 29 November 2025 at about 7:30am when bandits in large numbers stormed the village and rustled an unspecified number of animals.

Upon receiving the distress report, operatives of the 36 PMF deployed to Operation Restore Peace swiftly responded and engaged the attackers in what the statement described as “sporadic shooting,” forcing the bandits to flee into the forest with many sustaining fatal gunshot wounds.

A subsequent search of the surrounding forest led to the recovery of 96 cows, 45 sheep, and two motorcycles. The livestock were handed over to the village head of Zodi for safe return to the rightful owners, while the motorcycles were transferred to the Divisional Police Officer in Zuru for further investigation aimed at identifying the owners.

Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the gallantry of the PMF personnel and urged them to sustain the tempo. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents across the state.
