Kebbi Assembly Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency

The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Muhammad Usman Zuru, has reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in the management of public funds.

 

He made the remarks while formally declaring open the 2026 Budget Defence Session at the Assembly’s complex in Birnin Kebbi.

 

Rt. Honourable Zuru described the budget defence exercise as an important accountability platform designed to ensure that public resources are carefully planned, properly allocated, and effectively utilised in line with the aspirations of citizens and the development blueprint of Governor Nasir Idris.

 

The Speaker noted that Kebbi State has recorded significant improvements in key sectors, revealing that the 2025 budget achieved about 80 percent performance across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

 

He added that nearly 90 percent of the governor’s campaign promises have been fulfilled.

 

According to him, the achievements so far reflect the commitment of the present administration and the cordial working relationship between the executive and the legislature.

 

He emphasized that the purpose of the budget defence is to thoroughly scrutinize the financial proposals of all MDAs, ensure alignment between spending plans and government priorities, and confirm that public funds are channelled toward programmes and projects that directly benefit the people.

 

The Speaker urged all MDAs to present clear and measurable objectives, realistic financial projections, and credible data to support their 2026 budget proposals.

 

He warned that the House will not tolerate poor submissions, duplication of projects, or budget padding, stressing that the interest of the Kebbi people remains paramount.

 

In his remarks, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Adamu Muhammad Birnin Yauri, assured that the committee will diligently engage all MDAs throughout the defence exercise.
