The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against banditry and kidnapping, with the neutralization of three suspected kidnappers during an operation in Shanga Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, followed intelligence reports that a gang of kidnappers was sighted in a forest along the Tungargiwa–Saminaka road, allegedly plotting to abduct commuters.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Shanga swiftly mobilized a combined team of policemen and vigilantes to the scene. The suspects reportedly engaged the team in a gun duel, which led to the killing of three of them.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and seven rounds of live ammunition.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO and his team for their bravery and swift response, noting that the success underscores the command’s commitment to making Kebbi State unsafe for criminals. He also thanked the local communities for their timely intelligence sharing, which he described as crucial to the operation’s success.
CP Sani further assured residents that intensified patrols around Shanga and neighboring communities would be sustained to prevent further criminal incursions. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies, stressing that prevention remains the most effective crime-fighting strategy.
