President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, President Tinubu, in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, forwarded General Musa’s name for confirmation as the replacement for Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned on Monday.
General Musa, who will turn 58 on December 25, is a seasoned military officer who served as Chief of Defence Staff from 2023 to October 2025. In his letter to the Senate, President Tinubu expressed strong confidence in General Musa’s capacity to lead the Defence Ministry and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
