The United States has delivered military supplies to Nigeria, reinforcing ongoing bilateral security cooperation between the two countries.
The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees U.S. military operations across the continent. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), AFRICOM said the supplies were handed over to Nigerian partners in Abuja.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM stated, while tagging the U.S. Mission in Nigeria.
AFRICOM did not disclose details about the type or quantity of equipment delivered.
The development comes amid broader security collaboration between Abuja and Washington. On Christmas night, U.S. forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting Islamic State–linked militants allegedly operating alongside the Lakurawa jihadist group and local armed bandit networks.
Those strikes followed diplomatic tensions after allegations of persecution and violence against Christians in Nigeria. U.S. President Donald Trump had described the situation as “genocide,” a claim strongly rejected by the Nigerian government.
Nigeria and the United States have continued to engage on counterterrorism and regional security, despite occasional diplomatic disagreements.
