The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has denied claims that thugs loyal to the party attacked the convoy of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN.
Addressing journalists at the APC state headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, the party chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed Kana, dismissed the allegation as “entirely false.” He insisted that the convoy, allegedly comprising political thugs, had instead launched an assault on the APC office.
According to Kana, security operatives attached to Malami fired five gunshots at the party’s secretariat during the incident. “By the grace of God, there were no casualties because our members were observing prayers at the time,” he said.
The chairman explained that the confrontation was an act of self-defence, contrary to claims circulating in some quarters. He further alleged that thugs accompanying the former minister vandalized APC billboards along the Gwandu Junction–Ambursa axis on their way into Birnin Kebbi.
Kana called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and bring anyone found culpable to justice.
He also appealed to APC members and residents of the state to remain calm, law-abiding, and allow the authorities to handle the situation appropriately.
