Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced the release of 38 persons abducted during the recent attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Governor expressed joy over the development and attributed the successful rescue to what he described as the hands-on approach of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the statement, President Tinubu personally led efforts to secure the freedom of the abductees, even calling off his scheduled trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to address the security breaches in both Kwara and Kebbi States. The President also ordered heightened security deployments to Kwara, underscoring his commitment to safeguarding citizens.
AbdulRazaq commended the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force — which deployed four additional tactical teams to the state on the President’s directive.
He also thanked security operatives, community leaders, religious bodies, and residents of the state for their support and cooperation throughout the incident.
The abducted worshippers regained freedom on November 23, days after intense rescue efforts by security agencies and government authorities.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue working with federal authorities to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents.
