The Kebbi State Government has announced the immediate closure of all public and private secondary schools, as well as all state-owned tertiary institutions, following recent security breaches in parts of the state.
The directive was contained in a joint statement issued in Birnin Kebbi by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Abubakar-Tunga, and the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Bande.
According to the statement, the affected tertiary institutions include Kebbi State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; Adamu Augie College of Education, Argungu; and the School of Remedial Studies, Yauri.
The government, however, exempted the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, from the shutdown.
The commissioners urged the managements of all affected institutions to comply fully with the directive and remain calm, assuring that a new resumption date will be announced in due course.
