The Kebbi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at empowering youths across the state.
Governor Nasir Idris made this known in Birnin Kebbi during the final match of the maiden edition of the Kauran Gwandu Football Tournament, organised by his Special Adviser, Sulaiman Aliyu Mairubutu.
The Governor noted that sporting activities and similar initiatives play a vital role in reducing youth idleness and curbing social vices, while also providing platforms for young people to realise their potential.
He commended the organiser for the foresight in creating opportunities that inspire youths to pursue their dreams.
As part of efforts to encourage participation and reward excellence, Governor Nasir Idris announced a donation of ₦5 million to the winning team. The runners-up and third-place teams received ₦4 million and ₦3 million respectively, while the remaining 13 participating teams were awarded ₦2 million each.
Earlier, the organiser of the tournament, Sulaiman Aliyu Mairubutu, popularly known as MC Mairubutu, said the competition was designed to promote unity, peace, and youth engagement through sports.
He disclosed that he personally supported each of the 16 participating teams with ₦50,000, while the winning team received ₦300,000, the runners-up ₦200,000, and the third-place team ₦100,000.
MC Mairubutu expressed appreciation to the Governor for attending the final match, describing the gesture as a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to youth development in the state.
The final match, played between Lion Stars Football Club and Ambel Football Club, ended 3–1 in favour of Lion Stars.
