IPAC Tasks Political Parties on Prompt Congresses, Compliance with INEC Guidelines

Following ongoing party congresses ahead of primary elections across the country, the Kebbi State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on political parties yet to conduct their congresses as well as those that have concluded theirs ,to strictly comply with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines and constitutional provisions to strengthen internal democracy.

The Kebbi State Chairman of IPAC, Faruku Garba (NATO), made this known in a statement on Wednesday. He noted that prompt, credible, and transparent party congresses are the litmus test for free and fair primary elections.

According to him, good leadership emerges from credible congresses, which serve as a vehicle for political parties to strengthen internal democracy and enhance their chances of success at the polls.

He warned that flawed or manipulated congresses often lead to litigation, which could jeopardize a party’s electoral prospects and create unnecessary political tension.

Faruq urged all political parties in Kebbi State and across Nigeria to ensure that their internal processes strictly adhere to INEC regulations and constitutional guidelines.

He also commended the Kebbi State Government, under the leadership of Comrade Nasir Idris, for providing a level playing field for all political parties to participate in elections within the state.
