The Kebbi State House of Assembly has dismissed as false and unfounded a petition by former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, alleging that the state government is importing political thugs and mercenaries.
Speaking at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, Speaker of the House Rt Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru reaffirmed that Kebbi remains a land of peace, dignity, and law-abiding citizens.
Rt, Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru described the allegations as mischievous, designed to distract the government from its development agenda and to incite fear among the people.
The Speaker stressed that the state has no record or intention of importing political thugs, noting that politics in Kebbi has always been rooted in dialogue, persuasion, and respect for democratic values.
He said the House firmly rejects any form of violence or criminality that could threaten peace and stability.
He further urged security agencies to investigate the petition thoroughly and prosecute Malami, warning that those who spread falsehoods for political gain must be held accountable.
The Speaker further said the Assembly, remains committed to supporting Governor Nasir Idris in his drive for progress, peace, and stability in the state, while calling on the media and public to treat unverified allegations with the contempt they deserve.
