The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has lauded Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, for his steadfast commitment to the ongoing Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway project.
David Umahi, accompanied by the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo, gave the commendation on Friday during an inspection visit to the project site at Gulumbe.
He described Governor Idris as an “active playmaker” in ensuring the success of the project from its flag-off to date, noting his efforts in supporting agricultural production, infrastructural growth, and the welfare of Kebbi people.
“The people of Kebbi are happy with Comrade Nasir Idris, while the noise makers are busy in misadventure. Although they are not in Kebbi State, they continue to make noise, as development is taking place here,” Umahi remarked.
The minister also praised the governor for providing vehicles to security agencies to enhance safety along the project corridor. He assured that President Bola Tinubu remained fully committed to completing the superhighway and driving development across the North-West region.
Umahi further disclosed that funds for compensation to affected landowners were ready but emphasized that only those with genuine bank accounts would be paid to ensure transparency. He highlighted that the project received over N1.8 trillion in sectoral allocation, the highest under Tinubu’s administration.
Recalling that the project was first conceived 43 years ago under the late President Shehu Shagari, Umahi said President Tinubu had kept faith with history by actualizing it. He also commended security agencies, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Director of State Security Service for safeguarding the project.
In his remarks, Minister of State for Works, Barrister Goronyo, praised Umahi for his commitment and hailed President Tinubu’s visionary leadership. He stressed that the road project would boost socio-economic ties not only within Nigeria but also with neighboring African countries.
“So, as far as 2027 is concerned, the President has finished his campaign with this laudable project; he doesn’t have to come here,” Goronyo said.
Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), Alhaji Abdullahi Tanko Yakasai, applauded Tinubu, Umahi, Goronyo, and Governor Idris for actualizing the long-awaited road, saying it has brought renewed hope to the region.
Representing Governor Idris, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdullahi Umar Faruk, expressed delight over the progress of the project, pledging the state’s continued support.
The Federal Comptroller of Works in Kebbi, Engr. Ishaya Vandu, and the Managing Director of the contracting firm, Mr. Danny, also praised the collaboration between federal and state authorities, assuring that the work was on track and would meet specifications.
