The Kebbi State Government has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that portrays the state’s health sector as neglected, describing it as misleading and a calculated attempt to discredit the administration of Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, the government clarified that the footage of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital being shared was the same video used during the immediate past administration.
According to the statement, the present administration has already embarked on a comprehensive renovation and rehabilitation of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, with some departments temporarily relocated to the Teaching Hospital in Kalgo to allow contractors execute quality work.
The government further highlighted its efforts to upgrade healthcare delivery across the state. Renovation and equipping of General Hospitals in Argungu, Jega, Bunza, and Zuru are either completed or ongoing, alongside the installation of modern radiology software and procurement of power supply facilities at Teaching Hospital Kalgo.
In addition, the statement noted that several Primary Healthcare Centres across all 21 local government areas have been renovated, while casual health workers have been absorbed into permanent and pensionable service. Salaries of medical doctors have also been raised to match those of their counterparts in Federal Medical Centres to curb brain drain.
The government emphasized that within less than three years in office, the Idris-led administration has executed developmental projects in health and other sectors.
The Chief Press Secretary urged residents to disregard misinformation and support the administration in delivering dividends of democracy across the state.
