The Kebbi Development Forum (KDF) has sympathised with victims of the recent attack on eight communities in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where 35 lives were reportedly lost and cattle rustled, describing the incident as barbaric and condemned it in strong terms.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Saidu Abubakar Illo, the Forum extended condolences to the Kebbi State Government and the Argungu Emirate Council. It also conveyed sympathy to victims of similar attacks in Shanga, Ngaski and Yauri Local Government Areas.
The Forum prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives and comfort for their families. It also condemned reported threats by bandits to communities in Besse and Zaria Kala Kala in Koko-Besse LGA, as well as Utono in Ngaski LGA.
KDF warned that failure to act swiftly could heighten tensions in the affected communities. It called on relevant authorities to take urgent and decisive measures to curb the situation.
While acknowledging efforts by the state government and security agencies to restore calm, the Forum urged the adoption of a more decentralised security response mechanism.
It stressed that security should not be seen as the sole responsibility of federal or state governments, but must involve traditional institutions and local authorities in coordinated community-based efforts.
The Forum further called on the Federal Government and neighbouring countries to strengthen collaboration in tackling insecurity, reaffirming its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace.
