Security Reinforced in Kebbi Community After Deadly Rustling Attack

The Kebbi State Police Command has reinforced security presence in Bui District of Arewa Local Government Area following a deadly armed cattle rustling incident that claimed 33 lives.

The incident, which occurred on February 18, 2025, prompted a joint security response involving the Police, the Military and other security agencies. Additional personnel and operational assets have since been deployed to the affected communities, while sustained area domination patrols are ongoing to restore calm and maintain stability.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman Anisma, the Command expressed deep regret over the loss of innocent lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Arewa LGA.

Preliminary investigations revealed that armed Lakurawa militants allegedly entered Bui District to rustle cattle. The attackers were said to have crossed into the area from Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

According to the statement, residents of Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal and Dan Mai Ago mobilized in response to the invasion, leading to a fatal confrontation with the armed assailants.

The Police Command stressed that incidents involving heavily armed criminal elements require coordinated security intervention, warning members of the public against engaging such groups directly due to the grave risks involved.

It urged residents to promptly report suspicious movements and activities through established security channels to enable timely response by security agencies.

The Command assured that targeted operations are ongoing to track and apprehend the perpetrators, prevent further attacks and strengthen early warning mechanisms across vulnerable communities.
