The Kebbi State Government’s electricity committee has assured residents and Kaduna Electric of fairness, equity and justice in addressing power supply challenges in the state.

Chairman of the committee, Usman Abubakar, gave the assurance shortly after the committee’s inauguration in Birnin Kebbi.

Abubakar, who also chairs the Kebbi Development Forum (KDF), said the forum has inaugurated a Community Engagement and Corporate Responsibility Sub-Committee to strengthen efforts at improving electricity supply.

The committee, comprising government officials, media practitioners, civil society groups, trade unions and representatives of Kaduna Electric, was set up to investigate the causes of erratic electricity supply and recommend lasting solutions.

He said the panel would engage Kaduna Electric on issues raised during a recent town hall meeting with Governor Nasir Idris.

According to him, the committee will assess electricity supply to the state, review payments made and verify consumers’ compliance with bill payments.

The chairman noted that the committee has a two-week deadline to complete its assignment and has already established sub-committees to ensure effective delivery.

He emphasised that the exercise is not to apportion blame but to identify practical and sustainable solutions, adding that wider stakeholder engagement would be undertaken.
