Kebbi APC Sets Up Consensus Committee Ahead of 2027 Elections

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has inaugurated a nine-member committee to facilitate consensus among aspirants seeking various elective positions on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

 

The committee is chaired by former Governor Saidu Usman Dakingari, while the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, will serve as secretary.

 

Other members include the APC National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sulaiman Mohammed Argungu; Kebbi APC Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana Zuru; retired Justice Sulaiman Mohammed Ambursa; Managing Director of Sokoto Rima Basin Development Authority, Alhaji Abubakar Mallam; Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Birnin Kebbi; Chief of Staff, Government House, Barrister Attahiru Maccido; and Alhaji Umar Idris Buro.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Idris said the committee was constituted to ensure that aspirants emerge through consensus in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, which stipulates that candidates should emerge through consensus or direct primary.

 

He described the APC in Kebbi as a peaceful and united party with loyal members, stressing the need to sustain harmony by adopting consensus in selecting candidates.

 

The governor noted that members of the committee were carefully chosen based on their integrity and experience, urging them to engage all aspirants who purchased nomination and expression of interest forms and work towards an acceptable agreement on candidates to be presented by the party.

 

Governor Idris expressed confidence that the committee would develop a credible roadmap for achieving consensus across the party.

 

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Saidu Usman Dakingari thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in them and pledged that the assignment would be carried out with diligence and fairness.
