Kebbi Government Condoles with Immigration Over Killing of Three Officers

The Kebbi State Government has extended its condolences to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following the killing of three officers by bandits while on duty.

Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida conveyed the government’s sympathy when he received the Comptroller General of NIS, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.

Senator Tafida described the incident as tragic and deeply saddening. He prayed for the repose of the souls of the slain officers and urged their families to take solace in the will of Allah. He assured that security agencies in the state would strengthen collaboration in tackling insecurity.

The Deputy Governor also called for the creation of joint security teams at checkpoints, comprising personnel from Immigration, Customs, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other security outfits, to enhance safety and operational effectiveness.

Highlighting the security challenges at Nigeria’s borders, Senator Tafida urged the NIS to intensify efforts at the Nigeria–Niger and Nigeria–Benin Republic borders, which he described as particularly vulnerable to illegal migration. He reaffirmed the state government’s support for the families of the deceased through the office of the Comptroller General.

Responding, the Comptroller General, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s borders despite prevailing security threats. She appreciated the Kebbi State Government for its swift intervention and support since the incident occurred.

Mrs. Nandap appealed for stronger community collaboration to prevent future attacks and emphasized the importance of sustained inter-agency cooperation. She stated that the NIS would not be deterred by the unfortunate loss and would continue to work diligently to protect the country’s territorial integrity.
