Kebbi Government Denies Social Media Claims on “Hidden Airport” in Argungu

The Kebbi State Government has debunked a viral social media video alleging the discovery of a “Hidden Airport” in Argungu Forest purportedly being used for cocaine smuggling, describing the claim as false, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing the image of the state.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki, the government said the video circulating on TikTok and other platforms was fabricated with no element of truth.

“The entire content of the video is false, fabricated, and aimed at discrediting and tarnishing the good image of Kebbi State and its government,” the statement read.

It further clarified that there has never been any incident of drug trafficking or illegal airport operations in Argungu Local Government Area or any part of Kebbi State.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the only existing airport in Kebbi State is the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi. Argungu does not have, and has never had, any airport, airstrip, or related facility,” the statement emphasized.

Sarki also noted that all names and characters mentioned in the video were fictitious, stressing that there were no official reports or investigations by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), or any other security agency supporting such claims.

He expressed concern over the deliberate attempt by mischief makers to spread falsehoods capable of misleading the public and causing unnecessary tension.

“The public is therefore strongly advised to disregard this fake and mischievous content in its entirety,” he said.

The statement reaffirmed that Kebbi State, under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris, remains peaceful, transparent, and committed to cooperating with all federal security and anti-drug agencies to ensure public safety and good governance.
