NUT Holds 9th State Delegates Conference in Kebbi — Governor Kaura Commends Teachers

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kebbi State Chapter, has held its 9th State Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Birnin Kebbi with renewed commitment to improving education and teachers’ welfare.

Declaring the conference open, Governor Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), represented by Alhaji Kabiru Labbo Jega, Permanent Secretary,Ministry for basic and secondary education, charged teachers to embrace technology in teaching and learning, while commending the union for organizing a peaceful and purposeful gathering.

In his welcome address, NUT outgoing Chairman, Comrade Usman Adamu Isgogo, lauded the governor for key achievements within two years — including recruitment of over 2,000 teachers, promotion of girl-child education, prompt payment of salaries, approval of ₦75,000 minimum wage, completion of the new state secretariat, installation of solar streetlights, provision of an 18-seater bus to NUT, and payment of tuition fees for Kebbi indigenes studying in tertiary institutions at home and abroad.

He appealed for two operational vehicles for the union and emphasized continuous teacher training to enhance learning outcomes.

Representing the NUT National President, Comrade Hambali Moh’d urged delegates to maintain unity and discipline and to come up with resolutions that will strengthen the union.

A paper presentation by Prof. Bala Bakwai Kwashabawa on the theme “Embracing Technology in Teaching and Learning” highlighted the importance of digital literacy among teachers.

In his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Nuraddeen Bala Fingilla, thanked Governor Nasir Idris for giving him the opportunity to serve in his administration, describing the governor as a visionary leader who has transformed Kebbi into a more modern and organized state, especially the capital city.

At the end of the conference, Comrade Zaki Sarki was returned elected as the State Chairman of NUT, Kebbi State.
