Kebbi Government Debunks Fake Video on Alleged “Hidden Airport” in Argungu

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed as false a viral social media video alleging the existence of a two-kilometre “hidden airport” in Argungu, purportedly built by a customs officer to facilitate cocaine smuggling from Bogota, Colombia.

Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, described the video as AI-generated, fake, and malicious. He said the government initially had no intention of responding to such baseless claims but decided to do so following numerous calls from concerned citizens within and outside the country seeking clarification.

“By merely observing the visuals, it is obvious that the so-called airport is fabricated. No right-thinking person would believe that such a massive facility—capable of accommodating 12 aircraft—could exist in Argungu without anyone noticing,” the Commissioner stated.

He further alleged that the video was politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing the image of Governor Nasir Idris’s administration. “This is not the first time desperate politicians have resorted to mischief to discredit the government. But the people of Kebbi must remain vigilant and not fall for such lies,” he added.

Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed urged residents to continue supporting the government, assuring them that no amount of blackmail or propaganda would distract the administration from delivering on its mandate.

Also speaking, the Kebbi State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Commander Rabiu Abdullahi Sokoto, said his office immediately launched an investigation after receiving directives from the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

“Our findings confirmed that no such airport exists in Argungu or anywhere in Kebbi State. Furthermore, there is no officer by the name Ibrahim Musa, an Assistant Controller of Customs, who was alleged to have constructed the facility or imported two tonnes of cocaine worth ₦50 billion from Colombia,” he explained.

Commander Sokoto called on the public to disregard the fake claims, reaffirming the NDLEA’s commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and combating misinformation that undermines national security efforts.
