Polio Advocates Visit Emir of Gwandu for World Polio Day Awareness

As part of activities marking the continued celebration of World Polio Day in Kebbi State, a team of Polio awareness advocates and other stakeholders, led by the State Health Promotion Officer, Kebbi State Primary Health Care Development Agency( KSPHCDA), Alhaji Yusuf Usman Sauwa, have paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gwandu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar.

The visit was aimed at briefing the Emir on the successes recorded in the ongoing efforts to eradicate polio across the state.

Speaking during the visit, Alhaji Yusuf Usman Sauwa expressed delight over the remarkable progress achieved in the campaign, noting that it is safe to declare Kebbi State as polio-free.
He attributed this milestone to the collective support and cooperation of all stakeholders — including traditional and religious leaders, development partners, and relevant government agencies.

In his response, the Emir of Gwandu, represented by the Magajin Rafin Gwandu, Barrister Muhammad Sambo Aliyu, commended the dedication and resilience of all stakeholders in sustaining the gains of the campaign.
He also acknowledged the State Governor, Dr Nasir Idris, for his unwavering support and commitment to public health programmes, which have played a key role in making Kebbi a polio-free state.

The Emir further urged stakeholders to remain vigilant and continue working together to sustain the achievement, describing the feat as a noble cause worthy of preservation.
He thanked the delegation for the visit and for keeping the Emirate informed about the progress of the immunization campaign.

During the visit, representatives from the Ministries of Education, Information, and Health, as well as UNICEF and other development partners, spoke about their roles and the collaborative efforts that contributed to the success of the campaign.
