The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Usman Zuru, has empowered two hundred persons with disabilities in his constituency with cash support of twenty thousand naira each.
The gesture, aimed at improving the living standards of beneficiaries, includes individuals with visual and hearing impairments, as well as persons with physical disabilities and leprosy.
At the presentation ceremony held in Zuru town, the Speaker represented by the APC Chairman of Zuru Local Government, Abubakar Kana Zuru said the initiative was part of efforts to promote inclusivity and ensure that no one is left behind in the state’s development agenda.
He explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected and encouraged to use the funds to start small businesses that would make them self-reliant and reduce street begging.
Commissioner Persons with Disabilities Commission, Sarki Musa Emir, commended the Speaker’s gesture, describing it as a step toward alleviating poverty and promoting social inclusion.
Beneficiaries of the support expressed gratitude, saying the assistance would help them start small businesses and live more independent lives.
The Speaker’s wife, Hajiya Uwani Mohammed Usman, joined other stakeholders to present the cash to the beneficiaries.
It could be recalled that just last week, the Speaker distributed thirty brand-new motorcycles to youths in his constituency as part of his ongoing empowerment drive towards supporting the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris in improving the wellbeing of the people.
