Kebbi Government Donates Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Highway Project

The Kebbi State Government has donated 10 brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to enhance security along the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway construction corridor.

Governor Nasir Idris handed over the vehicles’ keys and documents to the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo, during a ceremony at Government House, Birnin Kebbi. He said the gesture was in fulfillment of the state’s earlier commitment to support security agencies safeguarding contractors working on the project.

Governor Idris explained that Kebbi State accounts for the highest stretch of the superhighway, with over 250 kilometres passing through its territory, making it necessary for the government to contribute to ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment.

He noted that construction work was progressing smoothly and reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure the project is completed without obstacles. The governor added that the new road would significantly boost the state’s socioeconomic status by improving access for farmers and facilitating commercial activities.

Governor Idris also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the transformative project and ensuring its implementation under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his response, Minister of State for Works, Barrister Bello Goronyo, thanked the Kebbi State Government on behalf of the Federal Government, describing the donation as a major boost to security operations along the project corridor. He praised Governor Idris for his commitment to national development, noting that the support aligns with President Tinubu’s vision for a prosperous Nigeria.

Goronyo disclosed that substantial progress has been recorded on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway within the Kebbi State corridor. According to him, 64 kilometres of land have been cleared, over 30 kilometres filled, about four kilometres of double-lane concrete work completed, and five kilometres of solar streetlights installed.

The minister assured that the donated vehicles would be used strictly for their intended security purposes as construction activities continue.
