Kebbi Govt Distributes Grains, Cash to Banditry Victims

Hundreds of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kebbi State have received relief materials from the state government to mitigate the impact of bandit attacks on their communities.

A total of 1,800 bags of assorted grains, comprising rice, guinea-corn and maize, alongside ₦17 million in cash, were distributed to victims currently taking refuge in Ngaski, Yauri, Shanga and Koko-Besse Local Government Areas.

The distribution followed the constitution of a committee by Governor Nasir Idris, chaired by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Empowerment, Alhaji Muhammad Hamidu Jarkuka, to oversee the delivery of the relief items as an interim support measure.

Speaking during the exercise at various distribution points, including Birnin Yauri, Ngaski, Tondi, Shanga and Koko, Jarkuka conveyed the Governor’s sympathy to the affected communities, assuring them of the government’s continued commitment to their security and welfare.

He said the gesture was part of the Governor’s ongoing efforts to respond promptly to humanitarian crises arising from insecurity.

“We are here to deliver relief items approved and released by Governor Nasir Idris. He remains tireless in ensuring the security and welfare of all residents of Kebbi State,” Jarkuka stated.

He disclosed that Ngaski Local Government Area received 633 bags of grains—211 bags each of rice, guinea-corn and maize—along with ₦6 million in cash. Yauri Local Government Area got 315 bags—105 bags of each grain—and ₦3 million, while Shanga Local Government Area received 537 bags—179 bags each—and ₦5 million. Koko-Besse Local Government Area also received 315 bags and ₦3 million.

Hamidu Jarkuka added that the items were distributed strictly as succour for IDPs who lost their homes and means of livelihood to bandit attacks.

In their remarks, traditional rulers and local government officials, including the District Heads of Birnin Yauri, Tondi and Koko, as well as the Chairman of Shanga Local Government Area, commended Governor Nasir Idris for his compassion and timely intervention, describing it as a demonstration of fatherly care for the people.
