The Governing Council and management team of the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru, have paid a courtesy call on Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Led by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Hajiya Azizat Raji, alongside the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Mohammed, the delegation expressed appreciation to the state government for its continuous support to the institution.
The Chairman highlighted the need for stronger collaboration in agricultural extension and research, stressing that the university’s mandate was to boost food security and serve farming communities.
She appealed for urgent government intervention to resolve challenges facing the university’s permanent site, where portions of land remain occupied by host communities, slowing down developmental works. She further requested prompt payment of compensation to landowners to pave the way for smooth project execution.
In his remarks, Governor Nasir Idris commended the university for its commitment to education and agricultural development, describing Kebbi as an agrarian state that stands to benefit greatly from such partnerships. He assured that his administration would work closely with the institution to advance agricultural extension services, enhance security, and promote food security in the state and the country at large.
On the issue of land, the governor directed the Ministry of Lands to liaise with the university management and resolve the matter within two weeks to allow the institution begin erecting structures at its permanent site. He pledged that his government would do everything possible to settle the dispute amicably.
Governor Idris thanked the delegation for the visit and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to partner with the university, while the management of the institution also reiterated their commitment to contributing to the development of Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole.
